The Mare’s Leg was a short, repeating rifle with lever action, that is, it allowed to make several shots before recharging, throwing out the spent case and replacing it with a new bullet by actioning a lever attached to the trigger guard hence the reason of the term "repeating rifle".
The design of this model was a return to its origin, using shorter revolver cartridges that produced less pressure. It also incorporated a Browning action which was much more resistant than the first rifles derived from the Henry.
This rifle was used by Josh Randall, the character of Steve McQueen in the television series Wanted: Dead or Alive (1958-1961). So this weapon has also been known as Randall Special.
